Plumbing

A career in plumbing in Australia offers excellent opportunities, including the potential for permanent residency (PR). Here’s a breakdown of the pathway and key steps for those pursuing a plumbing career:

Educational Pathway
Certificate III in Plumbing and Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services are the primary educational qualifications that equip students with practical skills to enter the plumbing trade.

  • Duration: Both courses are typically full-time for 52 weeks.
  • Eligibility: Completion of 12 years of education or its equivalent.
  • English Requirement: An IELTS score of 5.0 overall, with no component below 5.0, or an equivalent English language test result.

Visa Requirements for Study
To study plumbing in Australia, you’ll need to:

  • Hold a valid passport for the duration of your studies.
  • Receive an unconditional offer letter from a recognized Australian educational institution.
  • Provide evidence of sufficient funds to cover tuition, living expenses, and travel costs.
  • Obtain Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) for the entire period of your stay.
  • Submit additional documents as per the Department of Home Affairs visa checklist.

Pathway to PR
After completing your studies, you may apply for a Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485). This visa allows you to stay and work in Australia for 18 months to 2 years, giving you a chance to gain local work experience.

To transition from a Temporary Graduate Visa to PR, you will need to:

  • Obtain a Positive Skills Assessment from a relevant authority (e.g., Trades Recognition Australia).
  • Accumulate local work experience, which can be crucial for obtaining PR through the General Skilled Migration (GSM) program, where plumbing is often listed as a high-demand occupation on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL).
