Early Childhood Education

Pursuing a career in Early Childhood Education can be an excellent pathway to permanent residency (PR) in Australia.

While studying, a student visa allows you to work up to 40 hours per fortnight during the academic term and unlimited hours during breaks, providing hands-on experience in early childhood development.

Levels of Early Childhood Educational Programs Available
Certificate III in Early Childhood Education

  • Overview: This course prepares students to support children’s wellbeing, learning, and development in early childhood settings.
  • Duration: 6 months to 1 year (depending on the provider).
  • Eligibility: Completion of Year 12 or equivalent.
  • English Requirement: IELTS overall score of 5.5 (no band below 5.0).

 

Diploma in Early Childhood Education

  • Overview: This qualification enables individuals to plan, implement, and manage programs in early childhood services.
  • Duration: 1.5 years.
  • Eligibility: Completion of Year 12 or equivalent.
  • English Requirement: IELTS overall score of 5.5 (no band below 5.0).
  • Fees: AUD 12,000 to AUD 25,000.

 

Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education

  • Overview: A comprehensive program that focuses on child development, learning strategies, and early education theories.
  • Duration: 3 to 4 years (full-time).
  • Eligibility: Completion of Year 12 or equivalent.
  • English Requirement: IELTS overall score of 6.5 (no band below 6.0).

 

Master of Early Childhood Education

  • Overview: Designed for those who want to deepen their understanding of early childhood education and move into leadership roles.
  • Duration: 1 to 2 years.
  • Eligibility: A bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • English Requirement: IELTS overall score of 6.5 or higher.

 

Visa Requirements
To study in Australia, you will need:

  • A valid passport for the duration of your study.
  • An unconditional offer letter from your chosen educational institution.
  • Proof of sufficient funds to cover tuition fees and living expenses.
  • Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC).
  • Additional documents as required by the Department of Home Affairs visa checklist.

 

PR Pathway
Qualified Early Childhood Teachers are on the Medium to Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL), making them eligible to apply for Independent General Skilled Migration (PR) visas. This means that after completing your qualification and gaining relevant work experience, you may apply for permanent residency through skilled migration pathways.
